Emergency Unit Guidelines

1- Emergency Unit Instructions

Welcome to the Emergency Department of Al-Khafji National Hospital. Please observe the following Emergency Department instructions and adhere to them fully:

- For your safety and the safety of others, with our best wishes for everyone's wellness, health and a speedy recovery

- Upon registering at the department's reception, please wait until you are invited to the triage room to determine your examination priority within the department by the emergency physician

- After triaging your case, you will be directed either to the department immediately if your condition requires it or to the waiting room if your condition can wait a little

- After triage, you will be brought with your case priority and informed of the expected waiting period before your examination by the emergency physician

- It is strictly forbidden to enter the department without being invited to it to maintain order and patient safety and also so that you can be served quickly and efficiently without obstacles

- Smoking is strictly prohibited in the department

- One companion is allowed with each patient to maintain order and calm in the department

- It is strictly forbidden to use cameras or use mobile phones in the department

- If you are in the waiting room after triage and have a question or feel that your condition has worsened, please inform the triage room nurse to take the necessary action for your case and help you

- The seemingly quiet emergency department does not mean that those inside are not working, as the emergency team of doctors and nurses have many other tasks to do for your patients.

- Please note that emergency doctors cannot examine all cases received at the department at the same time, so we ask that you strictly adhere to the instructions for your safety and to avoid any errors or damages that may result from random, irregular work.

Note that the emergency department at Almanea General Hospital uses the Canadian Triage System (CTAS) - which is the best triage system used worldwide. According to the standards of that system, the triage categories are as follows:

A. Blue color - includes cases that cannot wait, and therefore these cases are immediately admitted to the resuscitation room.

B. Red color - includes urgent cases that should be examined within ten minutes of their arrival.

C. Yellow color - also includes urgent cases, but they can wait for a period not exceeding thirty minutes.

D. Green color - includes minor injuries, minor wounds and complaints that do not involve vital organs. These cases are examined within an hour of arrival.

E- White color - includes simple and non-emergency cases. It is preferable for these cases to be examined in outpatient clinics. These cases are examined within two hours of arrival.
